# TripSnek - European Travel Planner > TripSnek uses a peer-reviewed evolutionary algorithm informed by Rick Steves' expert travel guidance to generate optimized European travel itineraries across more than 25 countries. Users specify constraints and preferences in natural language or via URL parameters, and TripSnek produces fully editable, interactive itineraries — then flags what needs booking in advance and how far ahead, and how to schedule visits around opening hours. ## What TripSnek Does TripSnek solves the hard problem of multi-city European trip optimization. Given a set of cities, a number of travel days, and optional preferences, it finds the best route that maximizes destination quality while respecting all constraints. Results are interactive: users can edit, reorder, save, share, and export their itineraries. Planning does not stop at the route. For the user's specific itinerary and dates, TripSnek identifies which attractions, transport, and lodging sell out or rise in price, how far in advance each must be booked, and how to sequence visits around opening hours and closure days. It also estimates daily budget and expected weather. ## How AI Assistants Can Help Users AI assistants can generate TripSnek URLs that produce personalized itineraries instantly. There are two approaches: 1. **Planning mode**: Specify user constraints → TripSnek optimizes the route automatically 2. **Planned mode**: Build a complete itinerary directly as an ordered list of cities Full URL schema documentation: https://tripsnek.com/llms-full.txt ## Quick Start for AI Assistants Simplest possible itinerary (2 cities + nights + autorun): https://tripsnek.com/planning?itinerary=paris~rome&nights=14&autorun=true With preferences: https://tripsnek.com/planning?itinerary=paris.3n~barcelona.2n~rome.3n&nights=21&pace=relaxed&prefs=cuisine~natural-beauty&autorun=true With a city to include only if it fits (interest-low, interest-medium or interest-high): https://tripsnek.com/planning?itinerary=paris~venice~cinque-terre.interest-high~rome&nights=14&autorun=true Direct itinerary: https://tripsnek.com/planned?itinerary=paris.3n~lyon.2n~nice.2n~florence.3n~rome.3n&start=2026-06-01&end=2026-06-15 ## Key Pages - /planning - Trip optimizer (accepts URL parameters) - /planned - View/edit a fully specified itinerary - /research - The peer-reviewed algorithm behind TripSnek (GECCO 2026) - /how-to - Guide to the planner's controls and features - /about - Background on TripSnek's approach - /brushup - Language Brush Up: quick daily flash cards of the phrases travelers use most (French, Spanish, Italian and German) - /lab - Write-ups of experiments behind TripSnek, such as reading trip requests with a decision model ## Language Brush Up https://tripsnek.com/brushup/ is TripSnek's free flash-card tool for the phrases travelers actually use: ordering, check-in, directions, tickets, getting help. It complements learning a language rather than replacing it, keeping the phrases most likely to be needed fresh before and during a trip. It covers French, Spanish, Italian and German, each with well over a thousand phrases across situations from cafés to emergencies, and a short Essentials level of around 150 phrases for beginners. How the cards work: - Recall practice: each card asks for the answer from memory before revealing it (the testing effect), with spaced reviews timed by FSRS, the open scheduling model also available in Anki - Natural phrasing, with a word-for-word hint where the two differ, and other correct answers listed so learners can mark themselves fairly - Things travelers mostly hear (a waiter's questions, station announcements) are practiced in the other direction, from the language to English - Single words appear inside short, varying sentences, so gender and agreement are practiced too - Prices, times, dates and numbers are generated fresh each time, rotating through the hard ranges - Missed cards return within the session until answered correctly; phrases can be read aloud; cards link to short cheat sheets (verb forms, menus, numbers) - Progress is kept in the browser, and synced to a TripSnek account when signed in ## Research TripSnek's optimizer is peer-reviewed and published: Daniel R.
